fax software recommendation - sbs 2003 fax minimal

hi,

one of my client was using winfax 10 for a long time and now i've
upgraded her systems and winfax didn't work properly anymore.

i was trying to get her to migrate to the sbs2003 fax software but she
keeps complaining.

i'll be happy to help her install a new software but not sure which
one would be good for the long run. what software do you use for
faxing and which are the leading brands?

one of the things i'd really like to set up is email forwarding to the
faxes. that way when she gets away she is still able to receive her
faxes on mail and not worry about logging in her server to see if
anything came in.

kind regards and thanks in advance,
aaron.

This both sounds awfully like "windows" fax software - you're on the
mgetty list, and I think, all recommendations you'll get here are to
use mgetty+sendfax (or maybe hylafax).

So that's my recommendation: use mgetty+sendfax, on Linux.

Others might recommend Hylafax, on Linux, because there are Windows clients
for Hylafax.

thank you very much for replying.

i've looked into hylafsp,

and from what i figured out it prints to a unix server which sends the
fax, is that correct?

i've also noticed it doesn't have the email forwarding feature?

so from what i understand unix/linux systems are mostly used by bigger
corporations as fax servers? there wouldn't be any good software for a
pc server running sbs 2003?

Sort of.

Sure it has. When a fax comes in, you can run any script of your
choice - which could be a "take this fax, e-mail it to..." (and I
seem to remember that this is already built-in). But then, this is
not the Hylafax list...

Well, my corporation is a two-man shop, and we are using a FreeBSD
(unix) server to send our faxes...

What makes you assume that we would know? This is the *mgetty+sendfax*
mailing list, which is a proven and reliable software for Unix - and
has been available *and* reliable for much longer than even Windows 95
existed. Why would we bother to find out whether there is good windows
software today?
